Selected Achievements

Designed Zambia Railways Headquarters complex, analysing the site and project brief, laying out the campus and detailing several buildings. Scheme presentation including design report accepted and became the development plan.

Designed and detailed layouts and hard landscape components, managed contracts over a substantial period in Midlothian former mining village. Principal role in major fabric and external works improvements, in self-employment and later as firm’s architect.

Delivered construction information for Gryffe Castle £1.5 million listed mansion alterations, concurrently with two other Edinburgh projects June 2003 to March 2004. 16 high value residential units provided.

Specified mortar and workmanship for stone masonry at Edinburgh World Heritage Trust grant-aided repair to Georgian tenement, 60-64 Grassmarket, from knowledge of lime manufacture and mortar gained at Scottish Lime Centre Trust. “One of our successful projects”, according to Heritage Trust architect.

Selected surface finishes and colours including furniture and fabrics for £1 million Edinburgh golf clubhouse refurbishment, demanding design awareness and practicality. Handled pricing, procurement and installation.

Worked with tenants’ committee to design in detail and implement a complex landscaping scheme in restricted area for recreation, children’s play, private space protection and planting. End user approval. Urban regeneration award.

Prepared project-specific drawings for £1million ASDA Dunfermline supermarket, retail and preparation area shop fitting. Monitored installation over a 3 month period. Completion on time within budget.
